  • Responsible for all or a portion of the steel design of buildings and structures that are safe and meet applicable codes, with a focus on an economical design.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

    • May give direction to Junior Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians as required.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Fully understand the requirements of his/her job and the systems that support engineering.

    • Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or other related field degree or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    • Four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in engineering.

    • Licensed as a Professional Engineer.

    • Knowledge of structural steel design.

    • Knowledge of building codes especially the International Building Code (IBC).

    • Understanding and applicability of AISC Specifications including AISC Seismic Provisions.

    • Excellent work ethic

    • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and customers

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • The purpose of an Estimator is to provide an efficient quality/profitable estimate on time with a clear descriptive of scope of work to our external/internal customers. It is expected that each Estimator works with the utmost integrity/honesty.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION (including, but not limited to):

    • Meeting Attendance & Preparation: (Hand-off, Kick-off, Quality, Etc.)

    • Log in new jobs and place the in order of importance.

    • Keep current on all vendor pricing (Joist, Deck, SSR, Components, Wide flange, & Tube Pricing and Availability.

    • Help to schedule material and Fabrication with committee.

    • Identify and understand the scope of work for the specific project.

    • Communicate with the salesman and/or customer.

    • Solicit material quotes as required by providing Vendors w/clear directive.

    • Work closely with engineering group to develop quote engineering.

    • Coordinate the transmittal of documents with document control.

    • Perform personal review of every estimate.

    • Meet quote submittal dates/times as requested by sales/customers.

    • Transfer all pertinent quote information to the Project Manager group

    • Complete change orders in a timely manner as directed by the PM’s

    • Update on a daily basis the Job List In Estimating & Public folders.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 1 year specific experience with structural steel estimating, or related field in structural steel fabrication or production is preferred

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    • Basic Knowledge of and ability to use Algebra and Geometry.

    • Ability to read blueprints

    • Good English skills. Able to speak, read, write and understand.

    • Strong Math/Geometry skill.

    • Proficient at working on multiple projects at once.

  • GEM Buildings is currently seeking hard working, dependable Fabricators. Standard work schedule will be from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Fabricator job duties include cutting out, positioning, and piecing together structural metal parts, following precise instructions before welding. Must read and understand engineering specs supplied by manuals, diagrams, and computerized drafting programs. Fabricators also have to utilize many unique tools and precision measuring instruments. Overtime required depending on workload.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Must be able to pass a 2G horizontal weld test using the GMAW process

    • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings

    • Understanding of welding principles and practices

    • Ability to use squares, measuring tapes, mag drills, grinders, and other hand tools required for fabrication

    • Able to fit up and weld pieces for fabrication

    • Able to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for long periods of time

  • We are seeking a professional person with great management skills. The Project Coordinator will assist in leading project teams, coordinating, and ensuring the satisfactory completion of multiple Design-Build and Division 5 projects. They will be responsible for client relations and satisfaction, job cost accounting, and vendor/supplier relations. Duties include developing and sustaining project schedules, maintaining budget, and working with project team members to assure productivity and timeliness, including staffing, employee relations, adherence to company policies, etc. Ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact well with clients, vendors/suppliers, and all departments within the company. Must have basic commercial construction knowledge and background. Will be expected to effectively work with vendors/suppliers to negotiate favorable pricing and material procurement. The Project Coordinator is responsible for ensuring timely submission of all paperwork through receipt of final billing. Promoting teamwork, cooperation, and open communication among all those involved with a project is a required function of this position.

  • Perform inspections of fabricated structural steel; to include periodic and continuous inspection of welding, weld fit-up, dimensional inspection of cuts, copes, camber, and holes on holes only beams, plain material, angles, and ship loose pieces, both in-process and final, to ensure pieces meet drawing requirements. Use detailed drawings for information to inspect. Record daily inspections on Q.C. Travelers. Perform paint thickness inspections. Work with Senior Inspector and Shop Quality Manager to resolve daily issues. Help maintain flow of work thru the shop. Perform inspection of simple and complex parts using applicable drawings. Work with other departments.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Ability to read blueprints and fabrication details

    • Able to read and understand welding symbols

    • Able to perform weld inspections

    • Ability to write legibly using various markers

    • Able to move parts with cranes and on carts

    • Able to operate a forklift

  • This individual will take an active role in promoting and supporting the sales and marketing efforts at GEM Buildings. The primary responsibilities of this individual will be to assist the VP of Sales/Quality/Safety in increasing GEM’s sales. Other duties will include contacting prospective customers to grow GEM’s market share. This individual must assure that a strong, unified message is conveyed through all GEM marketing and sales programs.

    Essential Duties and Responsibility

    Sales/Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

    • Promote clear concise communications between all members of the sales team, between salespeople and customers, and between the sales group and all other groups and individuals at GEM.

    • Assist VP of S/Q/S in organizing and facilitating sales meetings and other functions as directed.

    • Assure that the GEM website is clear, concise, and strongly portrays the GEM Buildings message.

    • Assist VP of S/Q/S and salespeople in targeting and emailing specific industries and customers to promote the advantages of GEM Buildings.

    • Review industry trade publications and recommend where advertising dollars should be spent for the best return. Provide maximum company exposure and the highest sales growth potential.

    • Assure that GEM sales literature is up to date and portrays a unified, professional image to customers and potential customers.

    • Assure professional, appropriate displays are available for trade shows as needed.

    • Knowledgeable in all GEM sales literature and assumes responsibility to send out appropriate literature to prospects as directed by salespeople or VP of S/Q/S.

  • GEM Buildings is currently seeking a Structural Detailer with experience detailing structural and miscellaneous steel components. The ideal candidate will be able to create detailed fabrication drawings for structural steel components from architectural and structural design plans. Experience using SDS/2 software is highly preferred. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of detailing design standards and guidelines for AISC steel construction.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
